Undecylenoyl Phenylalanine is a compound that is commonly used in skin lightening/whitening cosmetic formulations. Melanotropin, or alpha-MSH, is a hormone that plays a significant role in the development of tyrosinase, and tyrosinase is an enzyme that contributes significantly to the production of melanin. Undecylenoyl Phenylalanine works by disturbing the melanotropin hormone, thereby inhibiting the production of tyrosinase and lightening the skin.
Undecylenoyl Phenylalanine is insoluble in water, but soluble in oil at a high temperature (~70°C or 158°F). Use between a 1-2% concentration (weight/volume). PH of resulting formulation should be between 4-7. For topical use only, do not ingest.
